Great bikes at Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show

Ignition switch on this 1948 Sunbeam S7 also controls the headlight!

The forecast is sunny skies and classic motorcycles for Saturday, Jan. 27 at Frost Park in Dania Beach, Fla.

It's the 12th Annual Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show.

Last year some 368 great old motorcycles entered for judging. A 1948 Sunbeam S7 was the winner in the "Other, English" category.

(Meaning it wasn't a BSA, Norton or Triumph; each of those brands has its own contest — Triumphs were so numerous they competed in two categories, old and not-so-old).

The oddball Sunbeam was one of my favorites at the show, full of the delightful details I love to find on old bikes. The ignition key and amp meter on the side toolbox were reminders that there is more than one way to make a motorcycle.

"Not the ideal location for an ammeter, or an ignition switch. But if you can get used to those balloon tires, you can get used to anything," notes Sump online magazine, in its profile of the Sunbeam S7.

The Dania Beach Show is free to the public with a fee to enter bikes for judging. They make no charge for the Florida sunshine.
