Vintage Iron Club brings motorcycle show to West Palm Beach, Fla. |
They're calling it the Inaugural Iron & Clematis Vintage Motorcycle Festival. More than 250 two-wheelers are expected.
Saturday's events are on the 500 block of Clematis Street in historic downtown West Palm Beach. Sunday's events put the bikes in motion at the Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter.
It wouldn't be a festival without the usual promises of vendors and live music, but there are several unusual aspects as well:
- A "Pin-ups at Sunset" vintage fashion show contest.
- Stage lectures on the history of motorcycles and cafe racers.
- Vintage Track Day Sunday, with vintage machines going through their paces at PBIR. You can buy your own way onto the track with a "parade lap" (speed limit: 80mph!) package.
- The Ace Cafe Pavilion with food and views of the track.
Admission to the Saturday motorcycle show is free. Register your motorcycle for $25 to compete in its class.
General admission for Sunday's track day is $10, with a portion of the profits donated to the Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit provider of assistance dogs for people with disabilities.
The Vintage Iron Club and the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority organized the festival.
They helpfully provide a note on "Who Should Attend: This is a family event aimed at people who enjoy vintage motorcycles with a gentleman’s touch. (This is NOT like a Daytona Beach-framed biker’s week.)"
Ahem. So, let's limit it to gentlemanly applause for the "Pin-ups at Sunset" fashion show, OK?
