2013 Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show is Jan. 26

Classic motorcycles and sunshine mix at the Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show.

It's my favorite vintage motorcycle show, perhaps in part because it is within easy range of my Royal Enfield Bullet.

But that's not the only reason I like the Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show. Who could not love a free opportunity to wander amid marvelous classic motorcycles in sunny South Florida?

Those concours d'elegance in California, with their high admission prices, glossy programs and valet parking, could not possibly equal the casual fun of a Sunday afternoon in the park amid motorcycles just as rarely seen and owners half as snooty.

In Dania Beach, you can get close enough to most to fog the mirrors with your breath. And there are Roller Derby girls. Really. Better not get too close to them, if you know what's good for you.

The Seventh Annual Dania Beach Vintage Motorcycle Show is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Frost Park, 300 NE Second St., Dania Beach, Fla.

The event is under the auspices of the Sunshine Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America event. Motorcycles 35 years old and older compete in classes for American, European, Japanese, English, Competition, Scooter, Rat, Bobber/Chopper and Cafe. They may waive the 35-years-old rule for "special interest bikes."

Entry fee is payable from 7 to 11 a.m. on the day of the event. Fee for first bike for AMCA members is $10, $15 for nonmembers and after that it is a sliding scale — the more bikes you bring the cheaper it gets.

Attractions include vendors, swap meet and "Roller Derby Girls." There are field games at 2 p.m., an antique bicycle display and the Independent Motorcycle Skill Team will perform. There's live music also. The event benefits the Stray Aid & Rescue for animals.
