Royal Enfield is setting sales records in the U.S.

Sales of Royal Enfield motorcycles, outstanding in India, are setting records in the United States, too.

Figures from Royal Enfield USA show enough new Royal Enfields registered in the third quarter of 2011 alone to make an impressive parade.

The top selling dealerships in the third quarter each could have equipped a decent sized outlaw gang with Bullets — of the Royal Enfield kind.

Four of the 15 top sellers are in California, so it would be natural to consider Royal Enfield's entry into that market in 2010 to be part of its growth.

On the other hand, two of the top 10 Royal Enfield dealers are in Connecticut. Customers are where you find them, and Royal Enfield is finding more of them throughout the U.S.

Royal Enfield USA president Kevin Mahoney told me that sales this year already have set an all-time record for his company.

In a message to dealers, he touted "a record breaking (year-to-date) 20 bikes sold by a dealer, a feat never accomplished by one dealer in a year! This has been done by Marty Mataya of Go Moto in Osseo, Minn.

"Marty has been in the motorcycle business for 30 years, as a motorcycle dealer for the last 20 years, as a Royal Enfield dealer for the last three years. Along with being a dealer, his sons hold two National AMA Pro licenses for flat track racing. The shop is run by Marty, his wife Lissa and the two sons. The loyalty of their customer base is solid – we’ve met many of their customers at the Royal Enfield reunions held over the years."

Powersports Business quoted vice president of sales Ron Greene on the same subject Friday:

“The growth of Royal Enfield worldwide is very exciting, but growth in sales in America of 50 percent. ...That's amazing. Obviously we're thrilled with the growth, but it shouldn't be surprising. The bikes speak for themselves. Once people try an Enfield they are hooked on a unique riding experience and that experience is reflected in the numbers.”

The top five selling dealers, in the third quarter, were Go Moto, of Osseo, Minn.; BMW of Fresno, of Fresno, Calif. (tie);   Marks Motorsports, of Enfield, Conn. (tie);  National Powersports, of Pembroke, N.H.;    and Velocity Vintage Motorcycles, of Richmond, Va.

The next five dealers on the list sold very nearly as many motorcycles as the top five!

Powersports Business reported that about a dozen Royal Enfield dealers from throughout the U.S. gathered at the ProfitX seminar in Las Vegas, Nev. for sessions on how to enhance their dealerships. Royal Enfield USA was a sponsor of the event.

Royal Enfield sales worldwide are up more than 40 percent from 2010. The company has announced plans for a new factory to meet demand.

  1. I usually think that I'm a bit of an oddball and don't do things like other people, but then after I've done something I discover that it's sort of a trend, or maybe a mini-trend. I opened up the new issue of Rider Magazine last week and saw a Bullet on a page near the front.

I bought the B5 a couple of weeks ago at Polaris of Katy, Texas. They have quite a few on the floor (5 or 6) but I believe they're all 2011 models, and that they sold all of their 2010s.

I have 302 miles on it and need to change the oil so that I can ride it later this week. Glad the weather is finally cool enough!
